This modern little glass building in Berzelii Park, the patch of green just in front of the Berns Hotel, has changed identity several times over the years. But now, as Bistro Berns, a cosy French bistro with a simple menu and friendly staff, it seems to have hit its stride. It has appropriated all the trappings of a traditional bistro – zinc and mahogany surfaces, crisp white table cloths, lighting that flatters the patrons, waiters clad in black and white, bottles of wine chilling in large silver bowls. The menu, which changes daily, features all the classics, like cassoulet, croque monsieur, moules frites, snails, oysters and entrecôte de Café Paris, all at prices that are fair. Stockholm has had something of a bistro boom of late, and Bistro Berns is one of the best. Its location in the heart of the city means that it’s always popular so be sure to book a table.
