This is one of the Sydney bakeries you will absolutely want to visit. And if you haven’t heard of a ginger ninja – get here fast. This playful bakery sells hundreds, if not thousands of the gingerbread biscuits to cafés across the city. Along with those, a calorific library of sweet treats awaits, like tartes Tatins, strawberry, watermelon and rose cream cake, all the better when accompanied by the Little Marionette coffee. rnIt’s not the most spacious place to pitch up, however, with sugar junkies crammed onto the solo banquette lining the window, or squeezing themselves onto the few stools scattered about on the sidewalk – look out for the funky Philippe Starck gnome table. Aside from sugary bites, Black Star makes a mean quiche, sausage rolls and meat pies, and being a bakery, the bread is top-notch. There’s even a toast station, where you can pretend you’re at a hotel breakfast buffet, and spread your slices with Vegemite, jam and all sorts.
