Bon Ton Cafe
Lawyers young and old don their bow ties and flock to the Bon Ton Café. For fifty years, this cafe located near the courthouses has been the ultimate New Orleans spot for the businessman’s (and more recently businesswoman’s) lunch. When it opened, it was one of the first restaurants to introduce the Cajun fare of the countryside to the highfalutin folks in the city. Today, the low-key dining room set with red-and-white checkered tablecloths and decorated with prints from Audubon’s Birds of America is a fine place to try crabmeat au gratin (it’s considered an entrée in Louisiana) with a brick of bread pudding smothered in high-octane whiskey sauce.
