Bondi Icebergs Baths
The Bondi Icebergs Baths is more than just one of the swimming pools in Sydney, it’s a Bondi institution. This 50-metre ocean pool doesn’t have to try hard to look enticing – it sits astride the rolling waves of south Bondi Beach, beneath Icebergs, one of the city’s most glam restaurants and cocktail bars. The baths were originally created back in 1929 to encourage local lifesavers to keep up their fitness during the winter months. There are eight lanes, a sauna, a gym and yoga classes, and while temperatures are at the mercy of the ocean currents, spare a thought for the Bondi Icebergs club swimmers. In winter, they make a show of dropping huge slabs of ice into the pool, diving in to swim in teeth-chatteringly cold water.
