Hg2 : The Hedonist

If you want to dine at Bruto (you do), you’ll need to ring ahead. This Spanish-Basque restaurant is a bright star in Bogotá’s culinary firmament at the moment and a reservation here is at the top of most foodies’ “to get” list. Familiar tapas dishes make an appearance on the accomplished menu – everything from patatas bravas to empanadas. But it’s the little things that make all the difference. The perfectly cooked squid croquetas that come with a silky, garlicky aioli. The velvety salmorejo, rich with the taste of fresh tomatoes and bread. But then, with chef Felipe Arizabaleta in the kitchen, you’d expect nothing less than excellence.

Even if the food doesn’t lure you to Bruto’s bustling embrace, the prospect of live music in a stylish setting should. Mismatching and marvellous, the interiors at Bruto mix colours and styles, with a splash of sunshine yellow here, some cherry red chairs and turquoise beams there. The decor is rustic, chic and utterly compelling. While a reservation to dine in its stylish surrounds is hard enough to get, those in-the-know try for a table on the patio so they can enjoy their delicious dinner al fresco, savouring the balmy evening and the ambience.
