Hg2 : The Hedonist

Buenos Aires

This most conveniently situated of Lisbon’s cafes is on the steep hike from Rossio to the bars of Bairro Alto, Buenos Aires has been permanently busy since opening in 2002. The bric-à-brac collection of clay ornaments and iconic film posters belong to the Argentinian owner who has collected them over the years. The musical selection reflects his native origins, along with an interest in traditional fado.

Buenos Aires was once a photographic shop and pictures that were once for sale here still hang on the walls. The rough wooden surfaces and warm glowing lanterns have the overtones of a gypsy tavern and are more than welcoming on a rainy day. Artistic types regularly return to enjoy a simple but tasty menu in a low-key setting. One of the few indoor comfort spots open on a Sunday afternoon.
