Only when drinking in New York will you come across this kind of multifaceted watering hole. There are two ways to describe Butter: First, it’s a perennially popular French American eatery and lounge where greenmarket fare, transporting décor, an excellent wine list, and top DJs create nights to remember. Second, it’s where celebrities throw parties for each other on their birthdays. While the scene in the downstairs Birch Room is where our minds immediately go – so often dappled with fashion world denizens and paparazzi fodder – the cuisine of French-trained chef Alexandra Guarnaschelli is sexy, satisfying, and not to be overlooked. The main room upstairs, encircled by banquettes, is extraordinary looking, with a large photo mural of a birch tree forest at one end and vaulted red cedar ceilings above. Go for the crowd, or the fine fare, or the log cabin ambiance, or the tunes. Any way you slice it, it makes for one enchanted evening, loves.
