Hg2 : The Hedonist

The Royal Ontario Museum is a must-see for its innovative glass and aluminum prismatic architecture and the rare artifacts within. If you start flagging during your visit then head for the fifth-floor restaurant, located in the top of the fifth crystal structure (hence the C5).

Thrillingly modern and monochrome, it has a stunning Downtown vista, better than most restaurants in Toronto, over and beyond the adjacent roof garden (a city bylaw insists new buildings have 20 per cent green roofing coverage). Artfully-presented, the elegant, modern Canadian menu spans from delicate charcuterie to scrumptious fried chicken and often a prix fixe option is influenced by the culture of the primary exhibit.
A delightful afternoon tea is also on offer and the lounge for cocktails is a winner. If you’re not the cultural sort, head here for a sunset dinner – you can at least say you’ve been to the ROM.
