Cabaret Voltaire
In 1916, a cultural revolution was launched from this small building in Niederdorf. Founded as a meeting place for radical artists, the anarchic Dadaist movement was born from the ferment of ideas swirling around the Cabaret. The Dadaist spirit was revived in 2001, when a group of artists took over the building and presided over three months of performances before the police evicted them.
In the aftermath, Cabaret Voltaire was turned into its current incarnation, a museum, exhibition space, shop and café. Working with international artists, the Cabaret curates quarterly exhibitions of modern art that reflects the Dadaist movement.
