Cable Cars
People with heights may enjoy other examples of things to do in San Francisco, as these cable cars hit the heights. Yet hanging on the outside of a cable car as it trundles precariously up and over the pitch of a serious grade, with astonishing bay views all around, is nothing short of exhilarating. Pick your route and start whistling the Rice-A-Roni theme. Three routes traverse the city: the Powell-Hyde line, the Powell-Mason line, and the California line. The two Powell lines begin at the turntable at Powell and Market. The Mason line runs up Powell, over Nob Hill, and down to Fisherman’s Wharf. The Hyde line heads over Nob Hill and Russian Hill to land at Aquatic Park. The California line starts at Market and Main, runs east-west from the Financial District, through Chinatown, over Nob Hill, and stops at Van Ness Avenue.
