Caelum is the most exquisite café and bakery that sits delicately on a corner of the Gothic district; not terribly easy to find but well worth the trip. Almost Provencal in décor and ambience, Caelum is a gorgeously lit café that is more like something out of a village in the south of France than a northern Spanish city. With homemade pastries, fruit tarts and jams for sale, as well as a really good cup of coffee, the walls are lined with old-fashioned cake stands, preserve jars and tea cups. Because of its location, this is a very tranquil change from the buzzing, fast-paced, often tourist-flooded cafes of the main areas like Placa de Catalunya. It’s a haven from the noise only blocks away and a perfect respite after a day of strolling the galleries or shopping.
