Café Bistro Im Nu
Once considered a no-go zone during the early reunification days, the Helmholzplatz is now a bustling hub of trendy bars and cafes in Berlin and of all those on offer, Café Bistro im Nu offers arguably the best home-baked food. The mouth-watering cakes are made by owner Adrianne on the premises and the mixed berry cheesecake is definitely not to be missed. Sunday’s buffet brunch is served until 4pm and includes a generous selection of tasty dishes and home-made breads served fresh from the oven. Juices and yoghurt shakes are a healthy alternative to the more traditional ‘kaffee und kuchen’. The interior is awash with pastel colours and art-deco decoration, while plush red window seating is a popular choice on a sunny day, when the café is otherwise left a little in the shade. The crowd is refreshingly mixed and less self-consciously trendy than other nearby hang-outs. Friendly and familiar, like a warm hug from grandma.
