There’s something of the racing driver or Premier League soccer player about Café Chic, a louche, naughty-looking regulars’ bar in a toney part of town – although plenty of its clientele are lawyers and financiers.
Bling is alive and well here, in the form of gold lamp bases moulded to resemble machine guns, shocking-pink ceilings and black walls. It’s a late-night cocktail bar for an older, richer crowd, serving classic cocktails at €14 a pop, and tapas-style food (available till 3am); upstairs is a big lounge, very 1980s Manhattan, with white leather armchairs, black slatted blinds and bamboo plants.
The music policy is brilliant, from easy-going soul to Charles Aznavour, Britney, Madonna; DJs are on most nights. Definitely a thrill-seeker’s den, perhaps not for everyone (that means you, Wallpaper* readers) but stacks of fun.
