Hg2 : The Hedonist

Café de l’Industrie

Not as white-hot as it was five years ago, when it was wall-to-wall with the Bastille’s young writers and designers, this trendy neighbourhood bistro, with its utility-chic details and walls hung with old movie-star portraits, is nonetheless still a trusty all-dayer, and veritably buzzes at lunch and dinner. The menu is French and unfussy and offers a good choice at decent prices; the puddings, especially the chocolate mi-cuit, are worth making yourself late for. So successful is the Café de l’Industrie formula, the proprietors have expanded not just into the premises of a former Moroccan restaurant over the road, but also, surprisingly, into a lingerie boutique next door, where you get five per cent off if you precede your knicker-shopping with an onion soup and a tuna steak.
