Confiserie Teuscher’s frou frou riverside café opened in 2008 but its classic lines make it feel like a Zürich fixture. The interior is coffee house on acid with high ceilings, neoclassical pillars, gold cherubs, gold chandeliers and Teuscher’s signature explosion of colourful fake flowers. A little OTT but it has great charm.
Beige marble tables play host to a constant ebb and flow of friends catching up over coffee or a glass of wine. In summer all the action moves outside to the capacious terrace shaded by red awnings. A short lunch menu focuses on salads and sandwiches but the main event are the cakes, fantastic schokoladentorte (chocolate cake) plus fruit tarts and strudels, displayed to great effect in long curved display cases. They also have an extensive selection of wines, coffees, teas and hot chocolates, try the latter with Grand Marnier and cream. Fantastic.
On Sundays, start the day with a little culture at one of their classical music Sunday Brunch concerts.
