A skip from the Jardin de Luxembourg, this unpretentious tabac-café is light and airy, with retro fittings such as pink Perspex shapes overhead and monochrome harlequin screen-prints on the walls. A young crowd sits on banquettes at white Formica tables, served by men who seem to have worked here for generations. It’s a perfect place to start the day, rest up after a tour of the APC fashion emporium opposite, or head to for a snack and a beer after a walk in the park. A simple menu of cheese plates, omelettes and sandwiches is on offer, and for breakfast there’s the pâtisserie du jour. Six sunny sidewalk tables are hotly contested, year-round.
