Even those with no competitive urge will be drawn in by the infectious spirit of the table football at this most casual of student bars in London. It’s an intimate set-up – three tables by the door are constantly surrounded by players and those waiting their turn, and the Latin beat whips the atmosphere into a frenzy of football fever. A global selection of beers and cheap but well-mixed cocktails keep the players motivated – winner stays on so for maxing your staying power, balance a few strong drinks with a couple of plates of their tapas. It’s charmingly shabby, but then again, it’s what Exmouth Market’s all about (ie, more interested in getting the fun than getting London’s Chicest Street Award). It’s an incredibly welcoming and inclusive place for a laidback if somewhat frenetic beer, where you’re likely to bond with total strangers in a love-hate relationship over a game of Baby Foot. NB there’s also Bar Kick (127 Shoreditch High Street, E1; 020 7739 8700), which hosts monthly tournaments and shows live TV sports.
