Hg2 : The Hedonist

Café November

One of the oldest cafés in Berlin, November has weathered a storm of short-lived enterprises nearby. Formerly a fishmongers, the café opened in its current incarnation back in 1989 as part of the reconstruction of Husemannstraße, and in terms of both décor and clientele has changed little since. In a district where businesses are characteristically in flux, November’s longevity is due to its favour with locals as a reliable and safe bet. At weekends, the sturdy wooden tables are littered with magazines and copies of Der Spiegel. Sundays are particularly busy, when couples flock to savour the continental, Italian and the big two-people breakfasts. When it’s sunny light spills through the large glass windows and the outside seating is packed. At night candlelight gently illuminates the dark brown interior and is the perfect setting to sink a bottle or two of red wine over dinner. November classes itself as a gay café, but the crowd is largely mixed.
