Café Pakhuis Wilhelmina
In keeping with its post-industrial location in an old warehouse down by the waterfront, Café Pakhuis Wilhelmina does a grand line in edgy music and cutting edge nights, sitting at the forefront of the Amsterdam clubbing scene. It’s an unassuming site near to the larger and grander Panama, and often gets overlooked because of where it is. This is a mistake, as Café Pakhuis Wilhelmina is a better choice for anyone hoping to escape anodyne Euro house. The talent veers from live rock and indie acts, to the occasionally bizarre Advanced Style Band Night, to the willfully peculiar Page Turner nights (‘zap performance-art for people with a short attention span’) to dub step DJs and drum n bass beat poets. Chuck in some improv nights and there’s a heady mix of the avante garde the odd and the interesting, but it’s all generally worth investigating.
