Cafe Royal
Established in 1919, Café Royal is not only one of the most a thriving cafés in Mumbai (with some reinventions along the way), it continues to attract customers, including former US president Bill Clinton, with its vast menu and funky décor. Café Royal markets itself as ‘bringing back the magic of the past’ and functions as an all day eatery. Café Royal has a rather large menu, covering both national and international cuisines. The cleverly named starters – ‘Throat Warmers & Beginners’ – include soups, melts, stuffed veggies, nachos and mezze platters. Further sections include everything from Indian Tandoori clay oven dishes to sambos, pastas and sizzling grills. The all rounder, spoilt for choice menu definitely has its perks, but when it comes down to deciding, the signature sizzlers win hands down, with a choice of meat, fish or vegetarian options all accompanied by a range of sauces and different sides. Although one of the more popular cafes in Mumbai, service can occasionally be lacking, but the food and atmosphere certainly make up for it.
