Café Savigny
One of the few true cafés in this area of Berlin, Café Savigny has been serving customers for the last 24 years. Exuding all the atmosphere of a traditional Viennese coffee house with waiters dressed in formal attire, the more modern laid-back surroundings and cosmopolitan touches (such as the supply of foreign newspapers) fix Savigny firmly in its 21st-century context. Faux-Roman friezes and an ornate chandelier decorate the otherwise simple interior and remind customers of the exclusive location. The daily changing menu offers high-quality home cooking as well as the 1001 Nacht Frühstuck (56gr Russian caviar, smoked salmon and a bottle of Krug). The sandwiches are served with a knife and fork indicating the ‘comfort meets class’ maxim on which Savigny thrives. Particularly well known for its small but delicious selection of home-made cakes, the café is a popular shopping pit-stop among the ladies-who-lunch, for whom the larger tables are often reserved.
