Café Suiça is sandwiched between the city’s busiest two squares which makes it one of Lisbon’s busiest cafes. Tourists flock in their droves to fill the large outdoor terrace on the Rossio, but more seating can be found at the Praça do Figueira entrance on the other side of the building. Café Suiça is a great for breakfast and a good spot to watch the daily life of the city unfold.
Later in the day, rumbling trams and car exhaust fumes can prove a little excessive. A renovated interior is a mixture of tacky plastic and cheap formica, and has a faceless canteen feel about it. The menu is extensive and boasts a selection of sandwiches, salads, fruit shakes, savoury pastries and cream cakes. A larger dining room offers more substantial meals.
