Caffè Novecento

Caffè Novecento is one of those cafés in Rome where you’ll have to marshall your willpower and steer yourself past the mouth-watering display of freshly baked cakes and tatins and take a seat in one of the three little dining areas before you start salivating over the delicious-ness that surrounds you. And to study the extensive list of teas. Rare varieties include China Plum Blossom and Double Rolling Clouds. For a more conventional cup there are several varieties of Assam, Green and Black teas. The main draw, however, should be to sample the torte (cakes). If calories are no concern dive straight in for a hot chocolate cake with cream. The pear and Marsala, carrot and walnut and strudel are equally delectable. A light lunch menu includes soups, salads and cous-cous and pasta dishes. The lighting is soft and the tables and chairs are arranged in petite clusters through the rooms. The café hosts occasional art exhibitions.
