Casa Lucio
Whether it’s Hollywood film stars, visiting dignitaries from overseas or the King of Spain himself, they all head to Casa Lucio, the finest of Madrid’s restaurants. It’s a hotspot for the VIP crowd located on the Cava Baja, the epicentre of traditional Madrileño cooking. To get the genuine experience, order the huevos estrellados, which literally means smashed eggs, and then tackle the suckling pig with chips. The extremely professional wait staff at Casa Lucio will ensure your wine glass runneth over at all times, and will guide you through the menu. The surroundings here are as rustic as the food, with low ceilings, exposed beams and led-light windows. Fellow diners will most likely be dressed up, with jackets and ties the norm, but you will still be OK should you turn up looking a little more casual. This restaurant is something of a Madrid institution, and shouldn’t be missed.
