Casa Nova

A Nuevo Latino restaurant inhabiting a cavernous stone edifice built centuries ago by the Franciscan order as a hostel for pilgrims- that is the embodiment of the renaissance taking place in Jaffa. Following several years in South America and Florida perfecting his craft, chef Nir Dagan chose this rejuvenated part of the Tel Aviv as the ideal setting for introducing Tel Aviv to a style of cuisine that combines disparate elements of street and high-end dishes from throughout the Latin world.

Casa Nova uses authentic furniture from Peru and Mexico to hint at the culinary themes of the restaurant, without muddling with the impressive waterfront structure. The multi-coloured weaving of the Qechua in Peru is represented on several of the chairs, flanked by Aztec statuettes used as centerpieces on several tables. The authenticity seeps into the bar area, where a large selection of Tequilas and Rums are complemented by cocktails such as the Chili Mojito and Fernet con Coca, a timeless Argentinean classic.

A consistently updated menu relies heavily on the day’s catch, featuring an array of ceviches, tostadas, pescados a la plancha, and other seafood delicacies. The fare is as light, tasty, and smooth as an authentic Pisco Sour, which is, coincidentally, also offered at the bar. It will be difficult not to thoroughly enjoy this portside culture clash.
