Cavalieri dell’Appia Antica
This company organises atmospheric and tranquil excursions on horseback down the Appian Way, Rome’s oldest road, which reaches down into the south of the peninsula. Now it’s overgrown in parts, with the mosses of time even more evocative of past centuries during moonlight rides. 20 Euros for an hours ride.
If you want to watch horse-riding rather than participate, then join the jet-set, who descend on Villa Borghese between late April and early May to witness the annual prosecco-fuelled showjumping event, Il Concorso Ippico Internazionale di Piazze di Siena. Information at www.piazzadisiena.com.
