Centro de Arte Reina Sofia
One of the largest art galleries in Madrid the Centro de Arte Reina Sofia is a huge exhibition space (formerly a hospital) housing contemporary Spanish art, 20th-century works from the Prado, and the Miró and Picasso legacies, including the famous Guernica. The white walls, high ceilings and vast galleries at Centro de Arte Reina Sofia are ideal for these modern and often large-scale works.
The museum also has a theatre, cinema, library, restaurant and bar, and from its top, fourth floor there are fabulous views across to Atocha station. An extension project, designed by Jean Nouvel and inaugurated in 2005, has added yet more exhibition space, as well as an excellent bookshop and café.
