London food trends seem to pop up and disappear faster than you can order an aperitif. Luckily, the buzz surrounding the most recent Peruvian restaurant to hit is the always-buzzing Ceviche Soho, and it’s proving this hotspot will be more than a one-hit wonder. For those unfamiliar with thist type of South American fare, think Mexican food without the indigestion, and zingy Pisco cocktails instead of margaritas.
The light tapas-style menu encourages sharing plates of ceviche (of course), grilled meat and fish skewers, light salads of quinoa, avocado, chilli and beetroot and a variety of corn dishes. The lomo soltado, wok-cooked beef tenderloin with soltado sauce, will melt in your mouth, literally. Inside, the zealous atmosphere comes from a combination of colourful, retro Peruvian prints and quirky objects, friendly staff and delicious cocktails, setting the scene for a damn good time where reserved English demeanours go out the window.
There is now a second outpost of Ceviche in Old Street (where else) at 2 Baldwin St EC1V 9NU.
