Chez Prune
It’s hard to resist the laid-back charm of Chez Prune, which explains why the bar is a favourite for most of the bright young things in Paris. Once you’ve been here you’ll find yourself coming back again and again. Bistro benches, mosaic floor, a zinc-topped bar, yellow walls decorated with retro clocks and blackboards all give it character. The wine here is excellent, the beer is cold. What more could you want? Bar snacks? Well, Chez Prune triumphs with something better than just your average serving of peanuts: you can nibble on great charcuterie, or sample their ‘trois couleurs’ (houmous, olive tapenade, taramasalata with bread) or crudités with cream-cheese dip sauce. You can eat lunch here too, and although the food isn’t amazing, the canalside terrace is a popular destination.
