The Chocolate Café chain, now numbering four establishments across the city and with Cio Cio San (see Eat) making up five, is a wonderful little empire, richly deserving of its success. Each café has its own signature decorative style, but generally is along the lines of a chic, classic, ‘Parisian-café-with-Eastern-twist’ feel. The exception to this is downstairs at the Husein Javid Ave branch (actually on the south side of the square), which is much more electro-disco, reflecting its popularity with the bright young things of the nearby university, but don’t worry the ground floor here is just as refined and elegant as the others. Husein Javid and the newer Old City location at Kichik Gala also have a more extensive, restaurant-style menu, but all serve up the most wonderful hot chocolate concoction of the melted choc of your choice whisked into hot cream. Chocaholic heaven.
