Chocolate Room
After several years in the game, Chocolate Room is still the place to go in Astana. Surely the jewel in the crown of the group that includes Barhat next door, Kyoto Bar and Jelsomino, it has somehow retained its exclusive cachet amongst the famously flighty cool kids and still packs in a good-looking crowd of wealthy late-teens and twenty-somethings. Ideally, start the night with dinner and drinks at Barhat then shimmy over to Chocolate to get your groove on to a mix of hip-hop, 80s and dance music mixed by a roster of local and visiting DJs. The décor is as sleek and modern as you’d expect, but it comes with a price tag: unsurprisingly, Chocolate is one of Astana’s more expensive venues with free entrance but tables priced at 75,000 KZT. Surely we needn’t stress that one must look sharp in order to party with the beautiful people of Chocolate, so be sure to don your designer finest.
