Cinema Pathé Tuschinski
The Pathé Tuschinski is the most beautfiul cinema in a city full of beautiful cinemas. The Dutch may have a fairly-earned reputation for frugality, but this tends to mean that if something ‘aint broke’, it won’t be replaced. As a result, beautiful, old buildings like this one with its extravagant art-deco interior, remain just as they should, rather than yielding to drab, dreary cineplex conformity. The film selection is a mix of big box office and smaller European and world cinema, with a sideline in quirky North American indie flicks. Foreign language films (as in most Dutch cinemas) will only have subtitles in Dutch. Another, equally art-deco interior can be found at The Movies on Harlemmerstraat, though this is much smaller and less impressive from outside.
