Hg2 : The Hedonist

Cinnamon Club

If you fancy brushing up on your knowledge of the British political elite while eating out in London, you could consider visiting this pioneering contemporary Indian restaurant in Westminster. Housed in a converted library, the dining room’s distinguished yet clubbable atmosphere (a blend of spice-coloured walls, pukka starched table cloths and general bonhomie) attracts MPs and journos from the nearby Houses of Parliament, as well as the sort of celebs who’d rather keep a low profile. The real draw, though, is Vivek Singh’s food, which diverges deliciously from the curry-house norm. Singh mixes inspirations from across the subcontinent with European influences to create a surprising and sophisticated hybrid. Early birds can turn up for breakfast (the full English, as well as Anglo-Indian treats such as kedgeree – spiced rice and fish); night owls might prefer the groovy downstairs bar with white rubber floors, leather walls and colourful Bollywood movies playing behind glass panels. Be warned that the Indian-themed cocktails don’t always deliver on their exotic promise.
