Circus is one of the newer clubs to open in Almaty and is riding high on the crest of its wave. The tusovka – the young, fashionable elite set – has been coming devotedly every weekend since it threw open its doors, so if you want to brush shoulders with the best of ’em do so here. But don’t be surprised if it’s a bit empty – it doesn’t kick off until around 2am. Either way, Circus is located on the top floor of the Tulip Hotel, under a huge dome, with a mezzanine running along the edge from where you can look down at a dance floor encircled by tables. The stage, meanwhile, is reserved for the sole use of the band and not for the drunken gyrating of girls who think they’re it. Lavishly-decorated in rich purples and gold – complete with corrupted Matisses and Picassos at the entrance – this is, with out a doubt, one of the most decadent places to party in the city.
