Hg2 : The Hedonist

Padded walls and soundproofed windows go with elegant English design in this banking-area hotel. The Claridge is popular with besuited financiers and locals loyal to the Claridge’s Piano Bar. All 153 rooms – some smaller than others – live up to five-star expectations; the offices in the suites are ‘carefully placed separately from the bedrooms so that business does not turn into pleasure’ (but of course that overlooks well-stocked minibars).
rnThe lobby bar comes highly acclaimed, and despite the built-up location, there is an outdoor pool. Conveniently, the Claridge will store your luggage for you if you decide you’d like to see more of Argentina, but despite this it is not really a holiday-maker’s choice; rather, it suits those in town on business who are fond of classic hotels where nothing is left to chance (it even loans cell phones to guests who need them while they’re in town).
rnThe original bank buildings in Buenos Aires are off the tourist trail, so take advantage of this and take time to see the physical foundations of Argentina’s economy. This is a well-oiled hotel in a gritty area, but with easy access to San Telmo.
