Clube de Fado
Clube de Fado is owned by fado guitarist Mario Pacheco and this atmospheric live music venue is a relative newcomer to Lisbon’s club scene. The architecture, however, is far more ancient, with stone columns, arches and a Moorish well. Nestled beneath the tranquil Se cathedral, it’s a lovely location.
Traditional fadistas such as Maria Armanda, Dr Fernando, Machado Soares and Maria da Nazare play alongside younger faces such as José da Camara and Paulo Braganca. Artists perform between courses in an intimate dining room, but an upstairs gallery can be used by those who just want to drink. Food is heavy, traditional and – like most fado clubs – expensive.
