Coco’s Bar and Grill
The antithesis of its rather chi-chi locale, Coco’s is a low-key local favourite tucked down an alley off Paradeplatz, in fact you’ll have to look pretty hard to find it. By day it’s packed out with a lunchtime crowd drawn mostly from neighbouring financial institutions, by night artists, socialites and financiers are enticed in by the sizzle of meat and fish on the grill.
For lunch, Coco’s has four options ranging from grilled meat to vegetarian and Asian, all preceded by soup or a salad. There are no menus, just friendly waiters to run you through the menu, your choice arriving with alacrity. By night, they offer a 4-course menu, ranging in price from 80-110 CHF, you choose your meat but everything else is a surprise. Choice made, follow the manager down into the fantastic wine cellar to select your tipple for the evening.
The traditional décor and curved bar makes it feel like an old boozer – not so. Formerly a menders studio, Coco’s was designed by theatre set designers to give it a deliberately low key aesthetic.
