Come Prima

Charming and understated, Come Prima represents the more romantic side of busy Lisbon. Italian restaurants may be rife but those of Come Prima’s calibre are rare; the atmosphere is cosy rather than chic, the staff friendly, and the wine list impressive – this eatery is certainly a hidden gem, tucked away on Rua do Olival. Wander through the Tapada das Necessidades gardens on one of those balmy Lisbon evenings to wind up on Come Prima’s doorstep – and then it may be worth taking a cab back, as navigating the labyrinthine streets can prove tricky (especially after having sampled that wine list and Come Prima’s limoncello).

Expect the classic Italian dishes; freshly prepared soups and salads, hand-made pasta and stone-baked pizza, as well as the more unusual ‘pesto prawns’ and octopus risotto, all tasty and filling without breaking the holiday bank. The Nepalese-born, Italian-bred owner Giovanni is often about to give a recommendation or dish up a taster, which goes that much further to ensuring a pleasurable dining experience, and making Come Prima a strong contender for the friendliest and best value Italian restaurant in Lisbon.
