Darussaade Hotel

A boutique hotel with historical bona fides, Darussaade Hotel was restored back in 2007. It was given an authentic overhaul, thanks to some 19th century architectural plans of the original building that were lying around. Today, the hotel has settled into its old-meets-new, Ottoman-meets-Western identity with aplomb. There are plush velvet-upholstered chairs and worn Turkish rugs, rich wooden floorboards and gleaming brass bedsteads, exposed brick and patterned tiles. And it’s all found in the Sultanahmet district, meaning that guests here can luxuriate in the all the charms of the hotel before heading out on a 10-minute stroll to the nearby sights, like the Hagia Sofia and the Topkapi Palace.

There are 22 guestrooms at the Darussaade Hotel, each decorated thoughtfully and individually with a splash of quaint patterned wallpaper here, a gilt mirror there. While the amenities are simple, they’re modern, with air-conditioning, free WiFi and 24-hour room service topping the list. Speaking of food: the Darussaade Hotel is on-hand throughout the day to sate and satisfy guests from breakfast through to dinner with its Turkish and international offerings. And, best of all, meals and, happily, cocktails can be enjoyed on the hotel’s chic rooftop; the ideal place to soak in the ambience and admire the views of the district, especially at sunset.
