Hg2 : The Hedonist

De Drie Graefjes

A welcome escape from the culinary tat that has gravitated to Dam Square and Damrack, De Drie Graefjes (Three Dukes) has space for 40 odd diners on it’s terrace during spring and summer, and a slightly more compact layout inside (including a spiral staircase that requires minor efforts of contortionism by anyone over six feet tall). It’s the usual lunch/café fare – burgers, salads, juices and smoothies, but they do a decent apple pie, and there is a delectable cake shop attached next door, which is full of prettily constructed fairy cakes and other colourful injections of pure sugar. A good call for escaping the crowds of Dam Square, to lunch in the looming presence of Nieuwe Kerk.
