De Vergulde Gaper
De Vergulde Gaper covers a number of bases, with a menu that offers snacking and coffee for those looking for a little sustenance during their strolls around Jordaan and the Canal belt, it has heartier meals on offer for those that might want more substantial dinner, but also makes a decent spot for a few beers. The large sun terrace is popular the moment the clouds clear, and while service can be plodding it is at least friendly. The black metal seating outdoors and the stylised furniture inside make this a little trendier than most of Amsterdam’s kerb-side cafes, and draws a slightly younger local crowd as a result. The menu is extensive, ranging from €3 toasties to €18 steak main courses, and a good selection of salads, which come as small or large, the latter being big enough to satisfy as a main course.
