Located at Slussen, the point where Gamla Stan and Södermalm meet, is Debaser, one of Sweden’s best smaller venues for live pop and rock. This is the place to come if you want to see up-and-coming Swedish bands, though since it opened in 2002 it’s hosted everyone from Bob Dylan to The Strokes. The music policy is wide-ranging, everything from Finnish glamrock to international indie pop. Open six nights a week, there’s a continual merry-go-round of club nights and concerts. Once a month there’s Svenska Musikklubben (The Swedish Music Club), which features two or three bands during the evening. Because the schedule is so packed, the best way to see what’s happening is to check the website. There’s also a second location, an 850-person concert venue called Medis, situated a short walk away at Medborgarplatsen on Södermalm, which features a cocktail bar overlooking the square.
