Degas House

If you fancy staying in a New Orleans B&B steeped with history, then Degas House is the perfect place for you. French Impressionist Edgar Degas stayed with his New Orleans relatives here in the 1870s – meaning your guestroom has a little more past to it than a regular B&B suite.

Today’s guests still experience the atmosphere of a Creole Victorian home –¬†including high ceilings, period furnishings, and claw-footed bathtubs – alongsie the warm and courteous care of the hosts. Reproductions of the works Degas painted while in New Orleans hang on the wall. The rooms at Degas House are named after the members of Degas’ family: Estelle has a beautiful gated balcony; Desiree, Matilde, and Williambell all feature Jacuzzi baths.

The simple weekday breakfasts of pastry and ‘tit noir (a small cup of black coffee) are augmented by heartier fare at weekends. Request a room on the upstairs front to really make the most of this wonderful place to stay in New Orleans.
