Del Monte Speakeasy
The prohibition era is alive and well in this Venice basement bar. Harking way back to 1915, Del Monte Speakeasy was born under a grocery store and lay low as a subterranean cultural hub where Venice’s miscreants used to gather and sip illicit beverages floated in through secret tunnels. The underground, rebellious allure has been re-imagined to create a super-hip space where the best of eclectic live local music mixes with golden age nostalgia cocktails, seasonal surprises and, in true speakeasy style, a few original Del Monte recipes that are only revealed in person – there’s also a strong range of micro-brews and craft beers smuggled in by the Del Monte staff. And this heaving joint is just round the corner from the iconic boardwalk, meaning you can mix it with Venice’s hippest nighttime revelers.
