Detour Espresso Bar

Although Sydneysiders are fond of a good cup of coffee, not all the coffee shops in Sydney can boast a good brew. But there’s some seriously good coffee at Detour. This funky hole-in-the-wall café is right on William Street, an arterial road linking the city to Kings Cross, but no one seems to care about the noisy traffic lumbering past. There’s nearly always a bunch of people from locals, commuters on their way to work and even teens from nearby SCEGGS college waiting patiently on the sidewalk for coffee and chatting to staff. The friendliness of this café is one of the highlights – all members of staff are personable and will happily bring you a glass of water while you wait. Grab a seat on one of the wooden crates beside low tables on the pavement, or perch on the pine wood benches running the length of the room inside. Coffee is the main focus, but Detour does a mean fresh mango smoothie, with rolls, paninis, wraps and salads all on offer for lunch.
