Clad in acres of shiny blue glass and conveniently-located in the very heart of the Left Bank, the Diplomat is a modern hotel with 77 rooms pitched mainly at business travellers. Much is made of its address by the distinctive Baiterek Tower, and it’s certainly among the city’s most daring and adventurous architectural feats. Rates are economical when compared with those quoted by the Diplomat’s better-known competitors, and the accommodation will feel pleasingly familiar to those used to staying in corporate western hotels. The rooms are spacious and well-appointed, breakfast is good and the staff courteous and professional, but be warned that the in-room internet connection can be slow to non-existent on a bad day. Construction of a half-Olympic-sized swimming pool, spa centre, gym and beauty salon is underway but in the meantime guests can amuse themselves at the Art Gallery entertainment complex just next door.
