Divan
Go through a small shop and up the stairs to access this unassuming Turkish restaurant. Try not be too alarmed by the kids’ corner, this is more of a spot for businessmen and government workers, but in Astana they do like to cater to everyone. Hugely popular with the Turkish community, this is testament to the authenticity of the food and the effusive hospitality. Tables either overlook Nurzhol Boulevard or the kitchen, where diners can watch the two Turkish chefs spin pide dough and slide the long-handled bread peels effortlessly in and out of the oven. If you’re looking for a quick fix, delicious meal, this is the place – orders speed through the kitchen like bullets. Wash it all down with some tea and end with some beautiful baklava.
