Divina
Divina is heaven in a nightclub in Milan for its borghese. Underneath ‘fashion’ bar Shu (now on the downturn of the cool cycle) and under the same ownership, Divina is a chic monochrome space aglow with UV and neon drinks trays that say ‘look at me’.
More than half of the cream ostrich leather seating is privé, but then most of the crowd – owing to its heavy door selection – are fighetti, offspring of Milan’s old money. Avoid being treated as one of the popolare by buying a bottle, which comes with its own table and is delivered on said neon tray. Standing at the bar has some surprises – stare into the middle distance at the lower bar and you’ll find yourself right in the ‘middle’ of a nude mosaic; and the cubista (or dancer) on the upper bar will have you not knowing where to look.
Music is accessible: ripped-up dance versions of cheesy pop – very Italian and very safe; dancing under the vast suspended flying saucer with flashing spotlights and jets of smoke is more hazardous.
