Hg2 : The Hedonist

Dover Street Market

When the intellectual Japanese label Comme des Garcons decided to open a London store, it shunned the obvious (ie ego and logo), instead opting for ‘concept’ and collaboration. On six floors of stark, spiky architecture (with sheds for cash desks and birdcages and Portaloos for changing rooms), DSM is the exemplar of curated consumption, with a thoughtful (if at times boggling) selection of fashion’s darkest, edgiest offerings from Alaia, Lanvin, Boudicca and of course Comme des Garcons and protege, Junya Watanabe. Sufferers of fashion fatigue may reward themselves at the in-store outpost of Paris’s excellent Rose Bakery Cafe.
