The opening date of this mall was put back four times. Finally throwing its doors open at the end of 2008, it’s not hard to see why, as alongside 1,200 shops, it’s also got an Olympic ice rink, a cinema complex and Sega Republic indoor theme park, to name but a few of its OTT attractions. You could easily spend a day here, with the epic food court providing stodgy international sustenance (it boasts the country’s only Taco Bell). It even has its own shiny approximation of a gold souk, complete with giant, glittering gold tree. The opening of Waitrose threw ex-pat Brits into a state of high excitement.
